DeviceVM Launches Splashtop™ - a Rapid-Start Platform for Consumer PCs

Splashtop makes computers work as fast as they should

October 10, 2007 – SAN JOSE - DeviceVM, a San Jose-based startup developing rapid-start computing technologies, today announced both its emergence from stealth mode and the availability of its new Splashtop™ platform. Capitalizing on years of experience in the embedded software industry, DeviceVM aims to significantly improve the consumer’s computing experience by deploying the Splashtop platform to PCs.

Splashtop is a product developed by DeviceVM that enables users to read e-mail, chat with friends, or surf the Web seconds after turning on their PC. With Splashtop, users can go between “on” and “off” in seconds, and do not need to leave their computers on all the time, reducing energy consumption, and maintaining information within easy reach.

“We want to help consumers cut down on the time between the moment they press the power button and the moment they get online, begin playing media files, and start using their favorite applications,” says Mark Lee, CEO and co-founder of DeviceVM. “While the typical operating system takes minutes to fully load, Splashtop enables users to check for new e-mail, send an instant message to a friend, and even watch a YouTube video in the same amount of time.”

Splashtop is built on Linux and integrates with the PC BIOS and launches after the user turns on the computer and before the primary operating system, such as Windows or Linux, enabling users to start their Splashtop applications immediately. Additionally, Splashtop provides an additional level of Web security, as it operates independently of the computer's primary operating system.

“Splashtop is poised to transform the way users interact with their computers,” says Larry Augustin, founder of VA Software, director of XenSource, and an investor in DeviceVM. “Through their embedded software expertise, DeviceVM is addressing one of the major limitations of computing today – the time it takes to go from a powered off computer to running applications and accessing the Internet.”

Founded in August 2006 by Mark Lee, Thomas Deng, Robert Ha, Alex Lu, and Philip Sheu, DeviceVM is based in Silicon Valley, and also maintains offices in Taiwan and China. Lee, Deng, and Ha were previously co-founders of OSA Technologies, a leading embedded platform management solution provider, with Acer, Dell, Gateway, HP, IBM, Sun, and other OEMs as customers.
