NBC features Splashtop, Mom finally understands...

I have a tech job. And, like the throngs of other people in Silicon Valley we all have parents who don't even try to understand what we do because, you know...it's technical. "Oh he works in technology," my Mom would say to friends and family at holidays. No other details. She never tried to understand. Well all that changed last week when NBC came into the DeviceVM office to do an interview. I've tried to explain a thousand times what Splashtop does because I think it's easy enough to understand. But, my mother just says, "that sounds real nice honey." I know she doesn't get it.

Why is it, then, that when Scott Budman, NBC news correspondent, talks about Splashtop it suddenly makes sense? I guess that's why he's on TV and I write a blog. After this aired last week, my Mom called me excitedly, "Scott Budman says that Splashtop can get you online in seconds!" Thanks, Scott, for giving my Mom something to talk about at Maj Jong next week.

Here's a link to the article.

Here's the video...

Quick Q, is there support for Remote Desktop (Terminal SVCs, VNC, etc...) in splashtop. This would really be the selling factor for me.

Hi Chris, the currently shipping versions of Splashtop do not have a remote desktop client. It is totally something that we can do. Check out this demo of Splashtop with Citrix ICA, for example:

Once we release our SDK, this is something that you'd be able to add

sergei, are there any limitations in partitioning just any drive and have splashtop installed on one of the partitions? I know that there is additional BIOS settings that you would lose but couldnt you just re-order the boot sequence to have the splashstop load first with the countdown?

Mark, you should be able to install Splashtop on any partition, as long as it is FAT16/32 or NTFS. Our BIOS component automatically finds the required files on the hard drive. The installation process depends on which Splashtop system you have. Typically, if you change partitions and then reinstall Splashtop, our installer will ask you which partition to use.

Sergei, that's good to know. I wasnt aware the BIOS component came with the splashtop software. I thought it was a situation where you either had a supported BIOS or you didnt.
