We are very excited this morning that DeviceVM and Splashtop has been selected to present at the Under the Radar Conference March 19-20 in Mountain View. There are a lot of cool companies that have been selected to present. You can check them all out on their homepage. We applied for Under the Radar hoping we could get in. Apparently hundreds of companies apply for the honor to present but only a handful are picked. Getting to participate is a great honor and the whole team is really pumped up.
Now that we’ve been picked the pressure is on! We’re going to have to do a great job presenting and answering questions. Here’s a description of the basic format from their website:
“UTR conferences showcase 32 of the most disruptive startups in a sector. We take a hands-on look at the true innovators fueling an explosion of emerging technology and new business opportunities. Each company demo’s their product to a panel of industry experts who are active in the sector, along with an audience of early-adopter technology insiders. Both audience and experts get a chance to ask questions and offer feedback on business models, market opportunities, areas for improvement, and how best to reach out and build up their audience. The conference also offers ample time for presenters and attendees to network and share ideas and information.”
Those panelists and industry experts that are described above are a formidable group. They include folks like Kara Swisher from the Wall Street Journal, Brad Stone from the New York Times, Aaron Ricadela from Business Week, Ellen McGirt from FastCompany, Robert Scoble from Scobelizer and Rafe Needleman of WebWare.
Well, now we have to get prepared! Mark Lee, our CEO, is going to do the demonstration which means that we have a month and a half to make sure that we have something special to show and that the demo machine is all charged up and ready. Congratulations team and supporters on another great honor and thanks DealMaker Media for choosing Splashtop!

Things were certainly busy at the Asus booth where Splashtop was given a small, but effective, enclave. We were visited by interested consumers, potential business parters and members of the press. The press were curious how Splashtop could provide access to your favorite web applications seconds after you hit the power button. Was it true? Was it really that fast? Some press even took out their stopwatches to time it.
One of the cooler press experiences was when Robert Scoble came over to do a live streaming webcast of David giving a demo of Splashtop running on an Asus F8SA Notebook. He was using a Nokia N95 camera to live stream the whole thing to the web. I stood behind Robert and watched the screen as he was filming. I was amazed that comments and questions were popping up on the screen in real time from the audience who were watching the live webcast. It’s amazing how “instant” the back and forth of Robert and the audience was. The technology that makes that happen is incredible.
MIT Technology Review had some good stuff to say, click here for that.
Finally, the folks at Engadget stirred up some controversy with this article. I should probably mention that there are no definite plans of putting Splashtop on the EeePC. We just thought it would make giving demos easy and portable.
Thanks to everyone who visited us at the Asus booth! Can’t wait for CES 2009!

Today was day 3 in the Splashtop CES “area” (nestled in the Asus booth). We had lots of people come hang out, watch our demo and consider what might be next for our instant-on system. Here are a few pics from the last couple of days…
Here is a picture of us winning our award with Harry McCracken from PC World.
This is Mark Lee, our CEO, giving a demonstration - we sure gave a lot of demos.
This is our table in the Asus booth. As you can see, we are proudly displaying our award.
This last picture is David giving the folks from Gottabemobile.com a demo. They wrote a cool article about us too.

So Robert Scoble came to the ASUS booth today. For those not in the know, Robert is a former MS guy and started one of the very first blogs, called “Scobleizer.” Scobleizer to this day is one of the most widely read blogs around.
As part of his blogging duties Robert interviews and investigates various technologies and finds innovative ways to share the information, things like qik; qik allows you to stream video from your cell phone, and publish it to people who want to view your videos. From the qik “about” page:
“Qik enables you to share moments of your life with your friends, family and the world - directly from your cell phone!”
So Robert came to the booth with his (really cool) Nokia phone and filmed our Splashtop demo and elevator pitch. I won’t lie to you, it was a little intimidating being on camera. The video is embedded below:
It’s nice to have a chance to share Splashtop with the world, and to simultaneously embrace new and interesting ways of sharing content with readers and viewers. Thanks Robert for coming by the booth and giving us an interview and a neat video.

We’re having a lot of fun already. Oh, wait! I meant we are working very hard here at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Want to come and see us? This is where we’re at.
Our booth has been pretty busy so far. We have had a lot of press, bloggers, interested consumers and friends stopping by and hanging out. Asus has been very helpful in making sure we have everything we need to make a good impression on our visitors. It’s been especially cool for me to get to know the Asus people better.
I haven’t had a lot of opportunity to walk around yet. I think that there’s a lot to see. The HP booth looks especially awesome this year and they’re giving out these big laptop stickers. I need to grab one of those.
Tonight is ShowStoppers. That’s where we’re going to get our award from PC World as one of the 25 most innovative products of 2007. After that we’re going to celebrates David’s birthday. He’s 30. Ouch.

I’m very excited to announce that Splashtop by DeviceVM has been named as one of the Top 25 Most Innovative Products of 2007 by PC World. In fact, we’re number 10 (right behind Facebook). Here’s a snippet from the article:
Innovation: Allows a PC to boot in a few seconds into a simple, secure interface with a Mozilla-based browser.
Benefit: Lets you save energy by keeping your PC powered off when you’re not using it.
DeviceVM’s Linux-based technology allows you to boot into its Internet-appliance-like platform in a few seconds, so you don’t have to spend minutes waiting for Windows to start up. If all you want to do is check your Web mail account or make a Skype call, for example, you’ll save both time and watt-hours. Though the technology is currently shipping as a feature only in the Asus P5E3 Deluxe/WiFi AP motherboard, it should be more widely available in desktops, laptops, and additional motherboards in 2008.
Thanks PC World! We’re very honored to receive such a prestigious award. Look for even more innovations in 2008. Happy New Year!

Just a quick reminder that Splashtop is going to be in Las Vegas at CES. We’re sharing space with our friends at Asus. So, in addition to seeing all of the cool things we have to announce this year, you can check out some of the wares that Asus is showing off. In fact, I’m blogging right now from my Asus Eee PC and loving it.
On the subject of blogging, please help me to get out of my booth duties by requesting extended reviews of products that you see coverage about. I will be more than happy to blog about any CES-related item that Splashtop users request. As far as coverage goes, both Engadget and CNET do an incredible job of making sure that you don’t have to be in Las Vegas to be at CES.
Here are our booth details should you want to come and visit:
The Splashtop team will be in the ASUS booth, which is located in the Las Vegas Convention Center in South Hall 4, 35162.
See you soon!

The awards for Splashtop keep rolling in and we couldn’t be more excited! Posted just today on HardwareZone is a great article about the 100 Top Products of 2007. Not only are we one of the Top 100 but we’re also named in the best of the 2007 awards.
“DeviceVM changed the game in 2007 with Splashtop, an amazing desktop environment based on a secure, ultra-lightweight Linux variant that will have your PC up in a few seconds flat with full access to the Internet and web-based applications such as e-mail, VoIP and even word processing.”

I’m excited to announce that Splashtop was just named one of the Greatest Linux Innovations of 2007 by Phoronix. Check out the article here. It’s an amazing honor to be named a great innovator as that’s what we work so hard to do! What a fun way to end the year.
I think 2008 is going to be even better and more innovative. During 2008 you can expect to see Splashtop hit many important milestones as we expand our relationship with Asus and show up on some new and exciting devices. Thanks again Phoronix!
