I haven’t blogged for a bit because I had a baby. Well, I didn’t but my wife did. So, I apologize for being late with this post about our success at Under the Radar, which was almost two weeks ago. In my last post, I put up a nice video of Mark’s great presentation. The thing that I didn’t highlight enough was that this presentation showcased our virtualization solution for the very first time. In fact, Under the Radar has different categories for company presentations. Ours was in the virtualization category. According to the audience present at the Microsoft Campus in Mountain View, DeviceVM was the best company in the virtualization category.
This begs the question, “why was the audience so taken with Splashtop?” There were other great companies present. My favorite (other than us) was JumpBox. Mark’s presentation was great but I like to think it wasn’t just his charm that won us an audience award. I believe that our solution touches a pain point that every consumer feels about using a PC. They are slow to turn on, slow to turn off and don’t get us online fast enough. I think that when the audience members recognized the promise of a better computing experience they were excited and they wanted it on their PC.
It doesn’t matter how whizbang our technology is (and it is pretty whizbang, by the way) - at the end of the day our solution solves a real problem faced by consumers on a daily basis and that makes it exciting and attractive. Get online seconds after you hit the power button while letting Windows boot in the background. Your favorite web apps at your fingertips. Zero to Internet in seconds. However you want to say it, consumers want a better computing/online experience. That’s why Splashtop won the Audience Award for Virtualization at Under the Radar.

We are very excited this morning that DeviceVM and Splashtop has been selected to present at the Under the Radar Conference March 19-20 in Mountain View. There are a lot of cool companies that have been selected to present. You can check them all out on their homepage. We applied for Under the Radar hoping we could get in. Apparently hundreds of companies apply for the honor to present but only a handful are picked. Getting to participate is a great honor and the whole team is really pumped up.
Now that we’ve been picked the pressure is on! We’re going to have to do a great job presenting and answering questions. Here’s a description of the basic format from their website:
“UTR conferences showcase 32 of the most disruptive startups in a sector. We take a hands-on look at the true innovators fueling an explosion of emerging technology and new business opportunities. Each company demo’s their product to a panel of industry experts who are active in the sector, along with an audience of early-adopter technology insiders. Both audience and experts get a chance to ask questions and offer feedback on business models, market opportunities, areas for improvement, and how best to reach out and build up their audience. The conference also offers ample time for presenters and attendees to network and share ideas and information.”
Those panelists and industry experts that are described above are a formidable group. They include folks like Kara Swisher from the Wall Street Journal, Brad Stone from the New York Times, Aaron Ricadela from Business Week, Ellen McGirt from FastCompany, Robert Scoble from Scobelizer and Rafe Needleman of WebWare.
Well, now we have to get prepared! Mark Lee, our CEO, is going to do the demonstration which means that we have a month and a half to make sure that we have something special to show and that the demo machine is all charged up and ready. Congratulations team and supporters on another great honor and thanks DealMaker Media for choosing Splashtop!

This picture is out of my hotel room window:

We’re having a lot of fun already. Oh, wait! I meant we are working very hard here at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Want to come and see us? This is where we’re at.
Our booth has been pretty busy so far. We have had a lot of press, bloggers, interested consumers and friends stopping by and hanging out. Asus has been very helpful in making sure we have everything we need to make a good impression on our visitors. It’s been especially cool for me to get to know the Asus people better.
I haven’t had a lot of opportunity to walk around yet. I think that there’s a lot to see. The HP booth looks especially awesome this year and they’re giving out these big laptop stickers. I need to grab one of those.
Tonight is ShowStoppers. That’s where we’re going to get our award from PC World as one of the 25 most innovative products of 2007. After that we’re going to celebrates David’s birthday. He’s 30. Ouch.

I’m very excited to announce that Splashtop by DeviceVM has been named as one of the Top 25 Most Innovative Products of 2007 by PC World. In fact, we’re number 10 (right behind Facebook). Here’s a snippet from the article:
Innovation: Allows a PC to boot in a few seconds into a simple, secure interface with a Mozilla-based browser.
Benefit: Lets you save energy by keeping your PC powered off when you’re not using it.
DeviceVM’s Linux-based technology allows you to boot into its Internet-appliance-like platform in a few seconds, so you don’t have to spend minutes waiting for Windows to start up. If all you want to do is check your Web mail account or make a Skype call, for example, you’ll save both time and watt-hours. Though the technology is currently shipping as a feature only in the Asus P5E3 Deluxe/WiFi AP motherboard, it should be more widely available in desktops, laptops, and additional motherboards in 2008.
Thanks PC World! We’re very honored to receive such a prestigious award. Look for even more innovations in 2008. Happy New Year!

I’m excited to announce that Splashtop was just named one of the Greatest Linux Innovations of 2007 by Phoronix. Check out the article here. It’s an amazing honor to be named a great innovator as that’s what we work so hard to do! What a fun way to end the year.
I think 2008 is going to be even better and more innovative. During 2008 you can expect to see Splashtop hit many important milestones as we expand our relationship with Asus and show up on some new and exciting devices. Thanks again Phoronix!
