Hey Lalo, it should play Youtube videos - sorry it does not. You may want to check for updated software for your laptop model through ASUS forums (http://vip.asus.com/forum). If they have it, you will need to download and install the update in Windows.

My Asus laptop came with its own version of Splashtop installed, Express Gate, and although its almost functional, it doesn't play videos in Youtube. I can watch videos on most other sites, like DailyMotion, but not Youtube. Just to let you know its limitaitions.

There is more to using a computer than surfing the net?
What if i want to use Firefox and it's extension as my browser?
What if I want to install the Gimp?
Of what if Windows users want to install games like Cubis 2, Spore, etc?

Woo hoo! I would give this technology the Nobel over the mini-hard drive. I see just one step between this and no need for an OS at all. Many of my clients simply don't need an OS especially with Web 2.O

Congrats Asus and Splashtop!

Hey Doug (#4) - I appreciate your commentary, however, we believe that you shouldn't have to put your computer in a "mode" to turn it off. We think computers should work like every other appliance and you should be able to turn it off and on quickly. Most people leave their computer on 24/7. What a waste! ;)

Long awaited and very nice project indeed !
Should we hope for a mail client in the fast boot (thunderbird??) (even if it might be complex to deal with the content itself .. in what filesystem and so on...
Another mighty functionnality would be to virtualize the choosen OS to be booted (a la VMWare...) allowing simultaneous full linux (on the same EXT partition as splashtop ?) , a windows, and even the unallowed osx ;-)
regards.

Looks like re branded firefox which is good, Hope u put in flash and java plugins or the browser is useless to most people. you should use a more open IM like pidgin or kopote, that has more support for more services (I.E. aol yahoo msn and the like ) being able to save to a usb or flash would be good to, access to the files on the hard drive would be a good idea to. All in all seems like a good idea, i could see it being used more on laptop to save power, done rambling...

Sounds great, the problem is adoption, you see something you want but have to wait for the big names to start building it in, either that or build your own pc. I prefer my laptops though and as yet you cant just go build one of those ya self. Looking forward to playing with this, any chance of a flash demo so we can see what to expect? I like the idea of havinig access to the USB pen drives so that you can surf the web but put anything of interest onto the pen drive

Hopefully it will consume less energy compared to a normal computer. I would prever a Firefox-Computer. For 90 % of my work I use the internet. What I would need more is to store some data on an USB-Stick. Maybe the design of the good old commodore C64 will return - a "thinking" keyboard with a standard-interface like USB, onboard wireless and some more RAM..
